Get to know Cheyenne Archer (she/her), RCC
Cheyenne brings a variety of education and lived experiences to the counselling space. Her areas of focus are navigating anxiety and depression, relationship challenges, medical changes (including infertility), intergenerational trauma, and exploring identity. Coming from a previous nursing background and working within the education system has built Cheyenne’s strong advocacy skills for her clients. She provides support through an affirming lens for each of our differences and intersectionalities.
She is a former nurse with 5+ years experience working in healthcare. Her time as a nurse helped her make the jump to psychotherapy and mental healthcare. Prior to nursing she explored the arts through theatre and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree. Cheyenne also had a brief foray working in BC’s education system.
Belonging to the infertility community, Cheyenne comes with an intimate knowledge of the complexities of navigating assisted reproductive technologies (IVF, IUI, etc.). She knows how the uncertainty can weigh on you and how your world can be shaped by medical appointments and medication schedules. Having seen a live-birth after 6 years of unexplained infertility, she is now navigating raising her youngest child alongside her eldest, who joined the family through adoption.
Cheyenne is of both Indigenous and settler ancestry. She has thorough knowledge of intergenerational trauma and navigating the systemic inequities present throughout the various aspects of our lives. It is her mixed ancestry that provides her unique perspectives of navigating the world through Two-Eyed Seeing (Two-Eyed seeing is a concept involving integrating the strengths of both Indigenous and Western ways of knowing which was first introduced by Mi’kmaq Elder Albert Marshall). It is her mixed heritage that provides her knowledge of navigating conflicting and different identities.
In her spare time, Cheyenne can be found spending time with family and friends. She is an avid board gamer and collector of all things Pokémon. Cheyenne still finds joy in theatre and other forms of storytelling. She’s also a novice beader and is exploring cedar work. Overall, Cheyenne enjoys time in community and connecting to others.
